I was having lunch with my highschool classmate, Finance Major from the States.. She wanted to dive into the Vietnamese IT sector this summer at a VC but didn’t know much about the local computing space. The discussion evolved around four main topics: Social Web start-ups, E-commerce, a little bit Open Source, and Mobile initiatives. I managed to get her up to speed with the first three but it turned out I didn’t know much about mobility in Vietnam.
Fortunately, Khánh Le Ngoc Quoc, our Mobile geek, after the last H3 on Web Services, couldn’t resist the temptation to host the next H3 on Mobile stuffs. Now I can come to H3 with a lot of questions for them. But it’s worth putting them here early and see if answers can be sought in advance.
- What are the current state of mobile apps development in Vietnam? Are companies paying more attention to building such apps.
- I haven’t noticed any remarkable surge in the number of locally developed applications for Vietnamese and overseas users alike. What hinders developers from investing resources in this.
- Any E-commerce developments on the mobile platform?
- How about the recently launched social networks for mobile users?
As I was finishing this post, it suddenly dawned on me that Khánh had a great post:”2008 summary and 2009 predictions of mobility in Vietnam“, which saves my newbie-ishness . Kudos to him.
Anyway, those who are interested in what’s going in the mobile space should be prepared for the next H3 in February. And of course, chek out Khánh’s blog at http://blog.khanhlnq.com
